When I photographed Roger Taylor with The Cross in Montreux, there was already a long Queen story behind the image. The first time I photographed Queen was in London in 1984, when Roger was sitting behind the drums and I did not even know his name. Those rolls of film were stolen, and two years later I got to experience Queen again at the same festival in Montreux. That was where I became friends with Brian May. So for me, this image is not only The Cross. It is also connected to Queen, London, Montreux – and actually South Africa as well, but that is another story.
