Portraits and visual memories from the international music scene
Collection: Meet the Legends
Author: Torleif Svensson
Rod Stewart had already lived several artist lives when I photographed him on the Vagabond Heart Tour. Faces, the solo career, the hair, the suits, the football feeling. And then the voice. That worn, raspy voice that sounds as if it has been through everything, and still holds. Globen is round like a football, which suited him quite well. At another concert, he kicked footballs out to the audience. There was a lot of Rod Stewart in that too. A little show, a little playfulness, but never without control. He could lean on his own history without getting stuck in it. Some artists were already legends when I began photographing rock’n’roll in the early eighties.
