At last I got to photograph a Beatle. Not the same feeling as standing in front of Paul McCartney the following year, but still: Ringo Starr. The drummer from The Beatles, right in front of the camera. This was the All Starr Band, where he surrounded himself with musicians who had songs and stories of their own. Nils Lofgren was there, as were Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren, Dave Edmunds and Burton Cummings. Behind the drums was also Ringo’s son Zak Starkey, later drummer with, among others, The Who and Oasis. The Peace sign has become part of him. Peace and love, like a small continuation of what John Lennon and Yoko Ono carried out into the world in their own way. After all those years with Beatles records on the turntable, it was still strange to stand there in Gothenburg and photograph him. Not the myth, not the record sleeve, but the person on stage.
