Prince was something else. Not just rock, not just funk, not just soul. He moved between all of that, and made it his own. This was the Parade Tour, the same period as the film Under the Cherry Moon and the song Kiss. One can say many things about the film, but the song remains. The stage light was mostly a beautiful blue. I also have the image in colour, and it is one of my favourites in the entire archive. A fellow photographer said the picture would have been good if the arm had not been in the way. For me, it is the opposite. It is the arm in front of the face that makes the image, together with the glowing cross. Have you seen him play While My Guitar Gently Weeps on YouTube? Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, 2004. Prince, Prince Rogers Nelson, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince. What an ARTIST. So tragic that so many artists die too early. Many of the images in the exhibition are included in my forthcoming book Legends & Poets.
