The first time I photographed Depeche Mode was during a week in London in 1984. The same trip on which I also photographed Queen. The camera bag with the rolls of film was stolen, and the images disappeared before I had even seen them. There is something special about analogue film. You carried the concert home in your bag, but knew nothing until the rolls had been developed. That time, I did not even get that far. Two years later, I got new images of Depeche Mode in Montreux. This image was taken later, during the World Violation Tour in Stockholm in 1990. A different moment, a different period in the band’s life, but still the same feeling that every frame had to be saved while it was happening.
