The One Vision Rapax Vest: Freddie, Munich and Queen’s Creative Reawakening
The distinctive Rapax C.B. vest associated with the One Vision period, when Queen returned to the studio after Live Aid with a renewed collective creative energy.
After the triumph of Live Aid, Queen entered a new phase in their history. One Vision was born in that atmosphere of renewed energy, as one of the band’s most collective and spontaneous creative moments: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon together in the studio, surrounded by musical ideas, fragments of lyrics, irony and experimentation.
The Rapax C.B. vest belongs to that very imagery: not simply a piece of clothing, but a visual trace of Freddie in a moment of shared work, away from the monumentality of the stage and close to Queen’s creative workshop. It is Freddie joking, trying things out, listening, responding, while a song takes shape together with the others.
Now part of the private collection of A Piece of His Own, this vest tells the story of a passage between two eras: the post Live Aid moment and the road towards the Magic Tour, Queen’s last great live season with Freddie Mercury.
